Mylan 531 Yellow Pill
What is Mylan 531? What kind of medication is the scored round yellow pill with "MYLAN 531" debossed on one side (the other side is blank)?
Mylan 531 is Sulindac (generic Clinoril) 200 mg. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis
of the spine). It is also used to treat bursitis, tendinitis, acute gouty arthritis, and other types of pain. Each yellow pill marked with "MYLAN 531" contains 200 mg of Sulindac.
Sulindac (Clinoril) is usually taken orally twice a day with food. The medication has proved to be effective in about one half of patients with osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis in the dosages of 150 mg (e.g., one Mylan 427 pill), taken twice daily. In patients with acute subacromial bursitis / supraspinatus tendinitis (acute shoulder pain), a higher dosage is usually administered - 200 mg (one Mylan 531 pill) twice daily. The dosage can be lowered or increased depending on the patient's response. But the total daily dosage should not exceed 400 mg. After the desired initial results of relieving pain and swelling have been achieved, the starting dosage can be reduced.
As a rule, the treatment lasts for one week. In cases of acute shoulder pain, a longer period of two weeks is usually required. However, like in case with other NSAIDs (such as Naproxen) the lower the effective dosage and the shorter the period of treatment, the better.
Though, if not overdosed, Sulindac is considered to have minor side effects it should be used with caution in patients with poor kidney function or liver disease as it can cause liver inflammation. In older patients, stomach ulcers and bleeding have been reported, too. Also, Sulindac (Clinoril, Mylan 531 pills) should not be combined with aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs, especially in patients with asthma.
You benefit directly when Mylan Generics are used in place of name-brand medicines. First, because you will be receiving a high quality medicine, and second, because Mylan Generics are generally more affordable.
The manufacturing facilities of all pharmaceutical companies - those making name-brand drugs and those making equivalent alternatives - are routinely inspected by the FDA. These savings are the result of Mylan's good, old-fashioned, American competition. As you can well appreciate, when there is more than one company manufacturing and/or selling the same product, the competition generally results in cost savings for the consumer.
However, you may try and order Sulindac (Clinoril) marketed by other manufacturers, too!
