Mylan Medications - Identify Your Pill
What pill is Mylan 555? What kind of medication is the white oblong pill with "MYLAN" embossed on one side and "555" on the other?
Mylan 555 is Naproxen - one of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The medication is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by such conditions as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (lower back pain), tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps. It may
also be taken as a fever reducer.
Each Mylan 555 pill contains 375 mg of Naproxen.
Naproxen is also marketed under different brand names that include: Aleve, Anaprox, EC-Naprosyn, Midol Extended Relief, Naprelan, Naprosyn and Naprosyn E. Aleve and any 220mg strength of Naproxen are usually available over-the-counter. To get other brands and dosages one needs a prescription.
In adult patients, Naproxen is used for:
If necessary, the dose can be increased by your doctor up to a total of 1500 mg a day, or reduced to the minimum after your condition improves.
In children, the dose is based on body weight. The initial dose is usually 5 mg per kilogram (about 2.25 mg per pound) of body weight twice a day.
The extended-release formulations of Naproxen are not recommended for use in children, as they are too strong for them.
Naproxen (including Mylan 555 pills) increases your risk of life-threatening heart or circulation problems, including heart attack or stroke. This risk will increase the longer you use Naproxen. Do not use Naproxen just before or after having heart bypass surgery (also called coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Naproxen (including Mylan 555 pills) can also increase your risk of serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and gastrointestinal effects can occur without warning at any time while you are taking Naproxen. Older adults may have an even greater risk of these serious gastrointestinal side effects.
You should be very careful taking Naproxen if you consume three or more alcoholic beverages per day.
Before taking Naproxen (including Mylan 555 pills), women should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or if they may become pregnant, as the medication can be harmful for the unborn baby. Naproxen is not recommended for breast-feeding women because it may cause unwanted effects in nursing babies, too.
Do not take acetaminophen or aspirin or other salicylates together with Naproxen for more than a few days. Do not take Naproxen if you are allegic to acetaminophen, aspirin or other salicylates.
One must remember that Naproxen does not cure such conditions as arthriris, etc. It only helps to relieve pain and inflammation caused by them.
You benefit directly when Mylan Generics are used in place of name-brand medicines. First, because you will be receiving a high quality medicine, and second, because Mylan Generics (including Mylan 555 pills) are generally more affordable.
However, you may try and order Naproxen (Naprosyn) distributed by other manufacturers, too!
